Scott Kildall: artist talk and deep listening performance
We are excited to welcome Chlorophyll arts lab’s inaugural artist-in-residence, Scott Kildall.
Scott Kildall creates artwork that transforms hidden data from the natural environment, such as water quality (such as Drift), air quality and plant data into sculptural sound installations. He uses custom electronics to create generative, data-driven experiences with uncertain outcomes.
I was first introduced to Scott Kildall‘s work in 2019 during my AiR at Xenoform arts lab, which he had facilitated at his art production and consulting studio in S.F. with the support of Open Austria. The following year, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we collaborated on a commission that resulted in a sci-fi short film. It imagined a future where a viral force is harnessed as a communication agent of “information infection”. Our remote collaboration was really enjoyable, the process inspiring and the outcome, short film Contagious Whisper, widely shown.
I am looking forward to continue the creative dialogue with Scott Kildall during the Chlorophyll residency. He will explore the ecology and engage with conservation landscape of Regent’s Canal with his ongoing BioSymphonic practice by constructing a small boat, Drift, equipped with water sensors that capture local water quality.
